Hamas Fantasy, IDF Reality

(Gaza Hospital Attack)

The despicable media’s misinformation about the Gaza hospital attack led to riots across the world.

By Gary F. Zeolla

Hamas Fantasy:  The Israel Defense Force (IDF) targeted a hospital in Gaza, hitting it directly and killing 500 people on October 17, 2023.

IDF Reality: The terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihadis fired multiple missiles from Gaza towards Israel, but one misfired and dropped onto the parking lot of the hospital, killing about 100 people.

Response of the Despicable Media and Biden

Which of these narratives did the media run with? The first of course. They simply trusted Hamas and its reporting, without first fact-checking to see if this terror group that just committed atrocities in Israel could be trusted. Or at best, they presented it as a “He said, He said” situation, with Hamas blaming the IDF, and the IDF blaming the Palestinian Islamic Jihadists, and no way to know the truth. That lack of fact-checking or clarity led to protests and riots across the USA, Europe, and the Middle East.

It also led to certain US lawmakers propagating the Hamas claim. That included the newly elected Summer Lee, a US House rep from my area near Pittsburgh, PA. But at least our normally cognitively struggling new Senator, John Fetterman, expressed clarity on the issue:

In an X (formerly Twitter) posting Wednesday [10/18/23], the senator said, “It.s truly disturbing...Members of Congress rushed to blame Israel for the hospital tragedy in Gaza. Who would take the word of a group that just massacred innocent Israeli civilians over our key ally?” (KDKA Radio. PA Senator).

That last line is a good question. But sadly, the answer is the mainstream media, radical lawmakers, and even some world leaders repeated the Hamas narrative. All of that led to the unrest across the world.

But now the evidence is in, and it is clear the second scenario is in fact the reality. However, the damage was done. Millions of people will continue to riot and to believe the Hamas narrative, no matter how much evidence is presented to the contrary.

Biden's Oval Office Speech

Sadly, our waste of a POTUS missed the perfect chance to set the record straight and barely mentioned this incident in his primetime oval office speech on October 20, 2023. All he said about it was the following:

Like so many others, I’m heartbroken by the tragic loss of Palestinian life, including the explosion at the hospital in Gaza, which was not done by the Israelis. We mourn every innocent life lost. We can’t ignore the humanity of innocent Palestinians who only want to live in peace and have an opportunity (New York Times. Full Transcript).

In no way did that half of a sentence made in passing help to diffuse the misguided rage of the pro-Hamas/ Palestinian protestors and rioters. In fact, the full paragraph just fueled it more, by trying to make an equivocation between this loss of life with the atrocities committed by Hamas against Israel in its sneak attack, as described in my article Israel-Hamas War.

Biden also did not mention that Israel’s goal should be to eradicate Hamas. That let the pro-Hamas/ Palestinian crowd with its talking point that Israel should only respond in a “proportional” manner. But that ignores all that I say in the preceding article and indicate by its subtitle, “Israel Must Eradicate Hamas, Just As the USA Did with Al Qaeda After 9/11.” Israelis simply cannot continue to live with the ever-present threat of another Hamas attack, just the USA would not have lived under the specter of another Al Qaeda attack. We went after Al Qaeda until it and its leaders were annihilated.

Otherwise, Biden called for “unity” and for the end of hatred from both sides against the other. But those words ring hallow from the Divider-in-Chief. As the subtitle of one of my books on Biden’s failing presidency puts it, Biden has been  “Spewing Hate and Division” since the day he took office.

There were other problems with Biden’s speech.

“The shame of it all is that we wouldn’t be in this terrible position if Joe Biden hadn’t been so weak in Afghanistan, so slow in Ukraine, so pandering to Iran, and so absent from the border,” wrote Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate who is beating him in some head-to-head polls. “The world is on fire, and America needs strong new leadership to deal with it” (Fox News. Republicans).

Nikki is correct in her comments, and I expound on them in my Biden books.

Fox News host Sean Hannity addressed the speech during his show on Thursday evening.

“I thought it was cliché,” Hannity said. “I wanted to hear more about the barbaric brutality that took place in Israel, the worst terror attack in their history. I wanted to hear more about the hostages. I wanted to hear more about the Americans killed. I wanted to hear more about what America needs to do in all this” (Fox News. Republicans).

Sean is also correct. Biden needed to make clear about the barbarism on the part of Hamas, as many who are protesting in support of Hamas deny that such happened. This all goes to the lack of trust people have in the media. More on that in a moment. But first, the evidence for the IDF’s claims.

Evidence for the IDF’s Claim

“This is proof of Israel’s claims that it was actually missiles from the Gaza Strip that shot into the direction of the Alahali Hospital in Gaza City and not from Israel,” Keshet 12 anchor Yonit Levi says of the footage.

“This is Channel 12’s camera. It is a camera situated in the city of Netivot, and its view is of the Gaza Strip,” she continues. “You can see the rockets… fired over the hospital…  and you can see the blast. So that is proof of the fact that it came from the Gaza Strip” (Fox News. Israeli TV footage appears to show Gaza hospital blast came from Palestinian rocket).

Two U.S. officials told ABC News the Pentagon independently concluded the Gaza hospital blast was likely caused by an errant Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket that fell short of its target (ABC News. Live Updates. Pentagon independently concluded Islamic Jihad responsible for hospital blast).

U.S. intelligence agencies believe the death toll from the al-Ahli Hospital explosion is between 100 and 300 people, and likely on the lower end of that range, although the estimates are preliminary, a U.S. official told ABC News (ABC News. Live Updates. US believes Gaza hospital death toll lower than initial estimates).

…overall conclusion of the American intelligence agencies appears sound: It was a malfunctioning Palestinian rocket that most likely hit the hospital.”
This evidence, in turn, suggests that the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, has deliberately told the world a false story. U.S. officials believe that the health ministry also inflated the toll when it announced 500 deaths; the actual number appears to be closer to 100 (New York Times.

An Astute Question by a Starlet

I never heard of her, but an astute question by a starlet will close this article:

Interstellar star Jessica Chastain is pleading with the public for help to find credible news sources after the New York Times and Washington Post “rushed to conclusion” in response to the Gaza hospital blast on Tuesday.

“Is there ANY place that I can get accurate news? We are living in a dark time when giants like @nytimes and @washingtonpost rush to conclusions in trying to keep pace with social media,” Chastain wrote in a social media post on Wednesday [10/18/23].

“Social media is not a credible news source. Please folks guide me to a place where I can get well sourced information,” the Zero Dark Thirty star added (Breitbart. ‘Interstellar’ Star Jessica Chastain Pleads for Help to Find a Credible News Source After NYT and WaPo ‘Rushed to Conclusion’ over Gaza Hospital Blast

I don’t have a good answer to her question. But I will say, my practice is to follow a wide variety of news sources, coming from both the left and the right and from the radio, TV, and Internet. I generally only trust information I hear from more than one independent source and preferably only when it is reported on both liberal and conservative news outlets. For an overview of the news sources I pursue, see  News, Politics, and Christians.

Five Book Series on Biden’s Failing Presidency

This series of five books provides the definitive record of Biden’s failures in his first two years as President. These failures should not be forgotten, as they laid the foundation for his continual failures in his subsequent years as President. He has been failing miserably on both domestic issues and in foreign policy. Those failures are all chronicled in these five books. For details on these books, see Joe Biden’s Failing Presidency.
