These commentaries are continued from December 2023 Christian Commentaries.

Body age. Test your physical age.

“YOUR BODY IS 28 years old.”

Yes, that is the result I got. But calendar-wise, I am 62-years-old.

New York Times. Just How Healthy Is Salmon?

While many supplements contain omega-3s, there’s evidence that getting these fats from seafood may be superior, perhaps because there are compounds in fish meat that help prevent omega-3s from breaking down during digestion.

“In addition, experts say that salmon contains other nutrients, such as protein, selenium and iodide, that may support or augment the healthy effects of these fats….

“The main finding of our work was that there’s not much difference between wild and farmed,” she said.

As always, real food is better than supplements. But what is most interesting about this article is many health professionals claim wild-caught salmon is better than farm-raised. But this article demonstrates there is not a significant difference between the two. The breed of salmon matters more.

New York Times. For a Stable, Strong Core, Forget About Crunches.

“Squats, deadlifts and push-ups also work the core,”

It’s not that crunches are useless. It is just that in real life, you generally don’t just bend forward a little bit. You use your entire body. That is the problem with  most isolation exercises. They just don’t work the body in the many in which you use it. But compound movements like the three mentioned use the body as a unit, just as you do in real life.

Nutrition and the Bible

These three books look in-depth at what God give to human beings for food and what the Bible teaches about diet and nutrition. They also compare these Biblical teachings to scientific research on nutrition and degenerative disease like heart disease, cancer, and stroke.
