Coronavirus Trib Live News Articles Commentaries

September 2020

By Gary F. Zeolla

These Commentaries are continued from Coronavirus News Articles Commentaries: August 2020.

This page contains short comments I’ve posted about news articles on Trib Live, which is the website for three Pittsburgh area newspapers, including my hometown newspaper. I read their website every day. Trib Live is left leaning in its perspective across all three of its newspapers and on its website. The comments at the end of articles are also mostly left leaning, being posted mostly by people from the very blue city of Pittsburgh. As such, my voice is rather unique. That is why I decided to start posting comments, to counter the liberal perspective.  There is a 750-character limit to comments, so I need to be concise in my comments, which is not always easy for me to do. The title links open in a new window.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi takes heat over visit to California hair salon

Nancy shouldn’t be criticized for her hypocrisy. She’s special. She needs to look good when she appears on MSNBC criticizing the President for his bad example. If she looks like an old hag, a couple of the viewers might tune out, and MSNBC would lose half its viewership.

The BLM Protests Are Killing People

Allegheny County caps week of uptick in covid infections with 92 new cases

“Allegheny County capped a week of higher covid-19 cases by adding another 92 cases Friday, according to a report from the county’s health department.

The new cases — 79 of which were confirmed, 13 probable — bumped the county’s seven-day average to 73 per day, 20 more than the average from the previous week (Aug. 21-28)….

In addition to a week of higher cases, the county’s positivity rate has seen a rise, going from 4.69% at the end of last week to 6.38% as of Friday.”

In mid-August, a new wave of Black Lives Matter protests began in Allegheny County (where Pittsburgh is located). I predicted on August 18 that Coronavirus cases would tick up in a couple of weeks. I was ridiculed for saying that. But it looks like I was correct, except it took a bit longer than two weeks.

The numbers: on August 19, daily cases dropped to a low of 27. After remaining low for almost two weeks, they have ticked up over the last few days: 94 on Wednesday (9/2), 101 on Thursday (9/3) and 92 on Friday (9/.4). An increase in deaths is sure to follow. That means, the protests are literally killing people. This scenario has been repeated across the country. But the authorities keep blaming anything and everything except the protests.

I know the authorities will say contact tracing shows the protests are not the source of new infections. But consider the following scenario:

Billy gets infected at a protest. But Billy is 20-something, so he is asymptomatic and never gets tested. But he infects Bob, who is 50. Before Bob develops symptoms, he goes to a restaurant with Sue, Tom, and Kim, who are all also in their 50s. All four of them then develop symptoms, get tested, and are positive.

A contact tracer interviews all four and finds out they all went to a restaurant. But no one mentions Billy or the BLM protest, because no one knows Billy was infected at the protest. The restaurant is declared to be the source of the infection, with the protest never being mentioned. But it was in fact the original source. As a result, the mayor shuts down restaurants but allows the protests to continue.

Of course, it is not just Billy, but many other 20-somethings at the protest got infected and infected others. But being 20-something, they remain asymptomatic, while the people they infect develop symptoms, and some of them die.

This scenario explains the delay in the increase of cases, as the protests are only indirectly the case of the uptick. It takes time for the protestors to infect others, who then constitute the new cases. But importantly, it is not just one rally, but hundreds or even thousands across the country over the past three months.

Again, the BLM protests are killing people. But the authorities are doing nothing about them, while curtailing the rights of the rest of us. The whole situation is just outrageous.

To be fair, Trump’s recent rally at Latrobe (also in SW PA), at Arnold Palmer Airport (named after the golfing great and Latrobe native) could also be a source of new infections. The local media was quick to point that out. But the same media says nothing about the BLM protests. I will call both out, making me consistent, which the media is not.

Shutdown Orders Unconstitutional

Federal judge rules Gov. Wolf’s shutdown orders were unconstitutional

My very first comments about the Coronavirus were to question the constitutionality of the Governor’s actions, and I was ridiculed for bringing up such an inane thing. But it looks like I was right all along.

But now what is to be done for all of the businesses that were wrongly shut down? Will they be reimbursed for their loses? And what about the business that have already closed permanently? Who is going to give those former business owners their lives and livelihoods back?

Rather than the unconstitutional orders, give us, we the people, correct information about the virus, and let us decide how best to proceed. But instead, we were subjected to scare tactics and draconian control. That caused many to rebel, totally ignoring any precautions. That all led to our high death toll and economic downturn.

It was all so unnecessary and unconstitutional, as I said all along.

Businesses Destroyed Needlessly

Business owners endorse judge’s ruling on Wolf orders, but say damage already done

It breaks my heart to read this article. It is all as I predicted and warned about back in the spring. But sadly, no one was listening to me. Gov. Wolf went on with his unconstitutional orders, destroying businesses and lives in the process. And do not miss the following:

Erb said Wolf had no right to close down businesses the way he did, especially if people were taking precautions such as cleaning, sanitizing, wearing masks and respecting people’s boundaries.

Steps could have been taken to keep people safe yet keep businesses open. But Wolf chose the draconian approach rather than a reasoned one that considered both the virus and the small business owner.

God-given Foods Eating Plan
For Lifelong Health, Optimization of Hormones, Improved Athletic Performance

The approach of this book is to study different foods and food groups, with a chapter devoted to each major classification of foods. First the Biblical evidence is considered, then the modern-day scientific research is reviewed. Foods are then classified as “God-given foods” and “non-God-given foods.” The main point will be a healthy eating plan is composed of a variety of God-given foods and avoids non-God-given foods.
